Freedom of speech means that you have the right to express your thoughts and opinions without being censored, punished or arrested. It is when everyone can say the things that they want to say, without limits on how much they can say or the things that they say.

Legal systems sometimes recognise certain limits on or to the freedom of speech, particularly when freedom of speech conflicts with other rights and freedoms, such as in the cases of libel, slander, pornography, obscenity, fighting words, and intellectual property. In Europe, blasphemy is a limitation to free speech. In the U.S., freedom of speech includes the right to not to speak (specifically, the right to not salute the flag), to engage in symbolic speech, to use certain offensive words and phrases to convey political messages, and to advertise commercial products and professional services (with some restrictions).
