I had the problem with my Wii U where if had something laying on top of the console it would have problems connecting to the internet. All my wireless devices WORK. My wii's wireless capability WORKS as its picking up other networks. But my network is invisible to it for whatever reason even though the router is right down the hall. I have the router on a "mixed" output mode so it can pick up B/G/N signals. I know the wii goes on a G signal so it should work. Nintendo will shut down the Wii Shop channel on January 30th, 2019, marking the end of an era for the service that first came online for Wii consoles in December 2006. The shutdown will happen im having the same issue. The wii connects just fine, but not the HBC. I have a dlink router. I have Static IP's for all my computers and my 360 but not for my wii.
